Picture discs are vinyl records which have a printed label on both sides with a plastic foil covering the entire surface area and grooves pressed into the plastic foil. GZ offers 12”, 10” and 7” Picture Discs each in one weight category.
In the case that a one sided record is requested; only one side of the picture disc will be cut. The other side can be "mirrored" (smooth surface with no recording), or there must be a "silent groove” (groove without signal).
Picture Discs may deteriorate the acoustic properties of the recording, for example, causing especially increased noise and static. These degraded acoustic properties cannot be subject to claim.
Here in GZ, we believe that vinyl shouldn’t just be limited to round, black discs… and due to a very high demand, not only do we offer coloured records and picture discs, but SHAPED VINYL as well! Shaped vinyl is the perfect media for limited edition and special collector’s items as well as promotional records.
Shaped vinyl is when a standard round record is shaped into various geometric shapes using a cutting tool. The shape of the final product is completely up to you – if its technically possible (taking the total area available for the music into consideration), we can shape it for you. The raw material for shaped records can either be standard black, coloured or picture discs - with clear vinyl compond only. In the case that a shaped picture disc is requested, the picture disc label must be 2-3mm smaller than the requested final shape size. The only shaped picture disc option available is a 1 sided picture disc– please note that warping may occur and flatness parameters may not be met.
Warping must not affect the playing of record, the tolerance for standard one colour record is 2mm, for shaped picture disc is tolerance max. 5mm.
Simple shapes included squares, rectangles, ovals or triangles.
The complex shape options for shaped vinyl are almost unlimited, so there is definitely a scope for your creativity.
The playing time depends on deep cut to record field. Deeper cuts reduce the record field – please always check that your design will be compatible with the format that you've chosen. Please contact a GZ representative for more information.
